Role overview
We are seeking a skilled Design Cost Estimator with a mechanical background and solid experience in vessel design, fabrication, and project cost estimation. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting engineering and commercial teams by accurately estimating the costs associated with vessel-related design and construction projects.
Key responsibilities
- Review and interpret engineering designs, technical drawings, and specifications for vessels (e.g., offshore, marine, pressure vessels).
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for mechanical components, materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted services.
- Analyze and break down project scopes to provide accurate and competitive cost estimations.
- Collaborate with design engineers to identify cost-saving opportunities during the design phase.
- Evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes, ensuring alignment with technical requirements and budget targets.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market rates, material prices, and industry trends.
- Prepare cost estimation reports and present findings to internal stakeholders and clients.
- Support bid preparation and tender documentation as needed.
- Track changes in project scope and adjust cost estimates accordingly.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and company procedures.
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in cost estimation within the mechanical or vessel-related industry (e.g., offshore structures, marine vessels, pressure vessels).
- Strong understanding of vessel construction processes, materials, and fabrication methods.
- Proficient in cost estimation software/tools and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Familiarity with 3D CAD tools and ability to read technical drawings.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadline.
